Most online PDF tools work by uploading your document to a server, running some code there, and sending the result back. That is fine for a brochure and unacceptable for a contract, a payslip, a medical record or anything covered by a data-processing agreement — because for the length of that upload, a stranger is holding a copy.
Every tool here runs on your own machine instead. The PDF engines are compiled to WebAssembly and executed by your browser, so the bytes are read from your disk, processed in memory, and written back out as a download. There is no endpoint to upload to, and no analytics script that could read a file it never receives.
Two tools are network-dependent, and both say so on their own pages: the AI chat tools send extracted text to a third-party model provider using an API key you supply, and the peer-to-peer share tools connect the two browsers to each other and never to us. The on-device AI features download their model weights once, and the size is shown before that download starts.
A service worker caches the app after your first visit, so the whole thing keeps working with the network switched off. There are no artificial file-size limits: the app reads the device's reported memory and sets its own ceiling, and the number quoted in each tool's FAQ is the number the engine actually enforces.
