A flatbed scan of a small document on A4 leaves a wide white band on three sides. Crop the first page to the content, then apply to all — the batch shares a bed position, so one measurement is usually correct for every page. Check a few interior pages first, since a two-sided scan can shift.
Pressbooks, brochures and downloads routinely mix A4 and Letter. Apply to all with scale-to-fit and the document becomes printable anywhere. Choose centre-without-scaling if the smaller pages must keep their exact physical size.
Add the required bleed by setting a slightly larger custom page size rather than scaling content down, then keep the content at its original scale. The result has the extra area a cutter needs without reflowing the artwork.
If cropping looks correct but the margin still prints, the content sits on a layer with its own larger box, and the page box is no longer the outermost limit. Flatten PDF merges the layers into one, after which the crop behaves predictably.

Yes. The setting applies to the page you are editing until you press apply to all. A cover at A4 with a US Letter body in one document is unusual but perfectly legal, and this tool will build it.
No. Text outside the crop area is not rendered or selectable because it is outside the page, but text inside the crop area is completely unaffected. It remains selectable and searchable.
No, and neither does it invent content that was cropped away. If you crop through the middle of a paragraph, that text is gone from the saved file. Undo is available until you save, and not afterwards.
A4 for most of the world outside North America, US Letter for North America, Legal for the long US format. If a print shop has asked for a specific size, use theirs rather than guessing — the mismatch is measured in millimetres and printers are unforgiving.
